Yes; most likely. It's a workaround to enable the OS 8/9 Speech Manager
to accept > ca. 40 pitch stipulations within one spoken string (I hope
I have my terminology is clear enough here). Apparently, a voice will
simply revert to a monotone after about 40 stipulations. So I include a
comma which will allow me to start a "new" string (within the same "say"
command) with more pitch stipulations .....but this comma interferes
with the rhythm of the "song".....so I include a single "u" sound at an
extremely fast rate right before the comma to speed it up (yes, I hear
you all groaning, but it works, or. at least it did in OS 8/9). It very
well may be that OS X doesn't like this workaround/kludge/abomination,
and I'd have to figure out another way of bypassing the 40-pitch
limitation. However, for all I know the OS X Speech Manager doesn't
have this limitation (somehow I doubt that's changed, though). If I
have the time I'll experiment to see if I can fashion another solution...
