Hi Greg,

try adding "*"& before the first tab and &"*" after searchstring. Also 
don´t put tab in quotes. (otherwise it will lokk for a string "tab" and 
not the tabulator.

filter theField with "*"  & tab & "*" & tab & "*" & tab & "*" & 
searchPhrase & "*"

Should work.
