checking/unchecking menus after a menu with cascading menus

Possibly. It is also possible that no one quite fully understands what 
you are wanting to do.

You pull down a menu. You cursor down and hilite the topmost layer in a 
cascading menu, so that its child menus become available. Now, you want 
to release the mouse button when exactly? While over that topmost 
layer? And from that you are expecting to place checkmarks on the 
topmost layer, as well as all of its child items?
