Because I didn't know it existed! Like (I suspect) the majority of 
people on this list, I joined the Revolution after RR came out and 
have never had any contact with MetaCard apart from one glance at a 
demo years ago.

I knew when I started using RR that it used a MetaCard engine that 
was a few issues behind the one MC itself used, so it never occurred 
to me that one could rely on any level of compatibility between RR 
and MC. Of course they're all one big happy family now, but this is 
the first suggestion I've seen that the MC Standalone Builder could 
be used.

I'll look into it - but IMHO the RunRev team really ought to clean up 
the Distribution Builder, or maybe just rename and republish the MC 
one, if it's superior.

PS Not all my recent problems are DB problems anyway, as Alex Rice 
points out. I have some issues with the Windows engine and am still 
hoping from some reaction from the RR team about this.
