there is already an entry in the bug base for it.
Bug 14345 <http://quality.runrev.com/show_bug.cgi?id=14345>

A fix is awaited for 6.7.2 RC2.

Devin posted in a comment that using 

set the playrate of player „whatever“ to 1 

instead of

start player

will play the audio clip.
