I would hope people who are crafty enough to build auto-updaters are
running routines to make sure the updater can find the file to update ;)
As far as updates that are actually just new installs, this could be a
problem but should only mean you've got to manually move it to the
folder in /Users/Shared. 

It could be that the link method would obviate this concern, though.
