Copying .app file and preserving icon

Yup - - - I'm in Panther.
Hmmm - - - I have a backup plan this, if there's a way to do this. I
basically need to get an alias of "Internet Connect" on the user's desktop, but
change the icon to something else. I haven't found any way to cut-and-paste
icons between alias's using Revolution or Applescript.
If that's not technically possible, then my backup plan would be to copy an
alias, with the icon I want to the user's desktop, and then somehow change the
"path" in that alias using Rev or Applescript.
Plan C, if that's not possible - - - create a standalone Applescript app
with the icon I want, and just have it launch Internet Connection. This seemed
like it was close to working, but I'm having problems getting Rev to copy
this Applescript app from the CD to the user's desktop.
Right now, I'm striking out with all three options. Any advice is greatly
appreciated.

Are you using Panther? If so, this is a known bug in Panther where modifying
some executables cause them to not be able to be launched. I have a routine
that creates apps and renames them, and 50% of the time, the app is useless
under Panther, and the other 50% of the time it works fine (with no code
change).

If you're on Panther, it's an Apple problem, IMHO.
