TTS, RR and OS X

Please forgive me if this is gradually becoming a bit off-topic. As someone
who has worked a bit (using SuperCard) with the speech "in-line" commands-

http://homepage.mac.com/usefulsoftware/

then click on the "SimpleSong" link

-I have since noted OS X apparently "chokes" on extended spoken strings,
whereas the same string will function as expected in OS 9. To illustrate,
play one of the "songs" in OS 9 SimpleText or even via "Classic" (although
the performance is somewhat degraded in Classic, at least on a 500 mHz 2001
iBook), and the complete extended string is "sung". Paste the same into a
RR field, then using Applescript OR the available external, and the speech
garbles and is truncated. In the case of the external, subsequent calls for
speech appear to remain garbled. Maybe this has to do with my workaround
with commas to allow for extended pitch stipulations? (see below, example).
I'm not sure if email text-wrapping will destroy the necessary formatting,
but you can try pasting the example "song" below into SimpleText and then
into a RR field for testing; you'll see what I mean.

I suppose the problem lies with OS X and not with RR, since both OS X
Applescript and external exhibit similar behavior.
