In order for this to work you should also take into consideration various rules for hyphenating words in the appropriate language. As these rules varies between languages, this can become a very complex function. If the text that goes into the field is static then I would either reduce the font size, widen the field (or both) or try to find a synonym that fits into the width of the field.
