This is my severe soapbox -- so many people describe AppleScript itself as
difficult, or poorly documented, or obscure, but what they are referring to
is exactly what you describe: bad and unclear app dictionaries. Of course,
since AppleScript is conceived of and mostly used as a glue language, it's
disingenuous of me to speak as if bad dictionaries aren't AppleScript's,
and ultimately Apple's, fault. But it still bugs me when people generalize
to saying AppleScript's own syntax is complex or confusing, especially
since those same people tend to lump together all vaguely english-like
languages, bringing this back on topic.
