Could you test if using Trevor's Enhanced QuickTime externals
still produce the same bugs?

Another way to test how QuickTime works in that specific computer
is creating a virtualized application that includes Quicktime. 
Or QuickTime Lite just like this example (created using Cameyo), 
that I posted some time ago:

You could virtualize your app, along with QuickTime (or QuickTime Lite)
following the step by step instructions of the virtualization app creators.
