Due to easier reading I have copied hereafter some statements from various
posts I don't agree:

> I haven't built for PowerPC in ages and no one has ever noticed. I vote to
drop support for OS 10.5.
> Please continue to make LIvecode 6.5 and 6.6 commercial licenses avaialble
who feel compelled to build for Mac PPC computers

I don't know, why you set 10.5 == PPC. I don't talk about PPC support. I am
talking about OS X 10.5 support on a 2007 Intel machine

> If you know of anyone who absolutely must run OS X 10.5, please remind
them that it's safe only for local work unconnected to the Internet.
> If anyone wish to use those old OSes, they are on their own.
> People running 10.4 and 10.5 use older hardware (I have a few of those
around) and can't expect to be able to run the newest version of a software
development system (while most of their programs are older versions anyway).

I think this is not a "must run" or "whish" of anyone running an old
(unsafe) system, but they don't have a choice, beside dumping their still
fine running hardeware and invest 1200,00 - 2000,00 Euros for new hardware
to be able to buy my product. I guess nobody will do. So it is not a problem
of the customers, but of me loosing market share. You can't upgrade the 10.5
system of a 2007 MacBook to 10.6 because of hardeware incompatibility, it's
not a choice!

> For most folks I think it's safe to say that a decade of use is a good
life span for a computer.

I am talking about Macs from 2007. Do you think they all have to be dumped?
I think they are still good machines and there are many people who don't
need the newest software and are happy with it, though there are security
leaks.

> People who want to maintain their old systems can use old versions of LC.

It is not a "want to", see above! It's my business to sell software and I
can't tell any potential customer that he first has to buy new hardware. So
it's my decision and my disadvantage and not theirs.

> Also, LC 6.5 and 6.6 won't disappear. If the file system doesn't change
and the language doesn't change too much, it should be fairly simple to use
those to brew a compatible version.

I agree from the technical point of view, that it wouldn't be much, to brew
a downwards compatible version with LC 6.6. But for my part it is not
affordable to provide compatibility for every product and every update to
every new system on Windows, OS X (perhaps even also iOS and Android) and
now additionally testing, compiling and distributing additionally versions
with old LC.

For me it would mean I would stay with LC 6.6. BUT I had to pay year by year
500,- Euro bucks for nothing, because Runrev will switch off my 6.6.
license, if I don't pay. So I had to investigate if I could go back to LC
4.7 because runrev can't switch off that license (if I remember right). If
runrev provides me a persistent license for 6.6. I would agree. Wonderful
new world.

My 2 euro cents
