OK, but Java isn't "Apple software", is it?  Even their own software
updates notify me it's about to be updated and a chance to say yay or nay.
 Plus, owning the software doesn't seem like it gives them the right to
block it from running on my computer.

I get Jacque's point about it being for my own good - it would just be nice
to be informed that it was happening.

I know it's a moot point because Apple seem to be able to do whatever the
hell they want these days!
