URL function fails on http requests, results in "invalid host address", other internet functions work correctly

Thanks for the response.

I'm not sure that the hosts file would affect this, because setting up a
new user account fixes the problem. (And the hosts file is independent of
the user account, right?)

Also, the firewall is not set up. Or at least it has never been manually
set up and it isn't showing as active.
