In the past, a standalone was a combination of the engine and your stack 
file. It used to be possible to separate the two and turn a standalone 
back into a plain stack.

It's no longer possible. The file format of standalones was changed and 
the two parts can't be separated any more. If your standalones are built 
with any engine released over the last year or so, they can't be 
tampered with.
