HI Richmond,
That was me.  There's not much to tell really: run Quicktime and select
"New Screen Recording" from the File menu (you can also do a movie
recording or an audio recording).  There are choices for which mic to us
and medium or high video quality.  Then click the record button and your
off and running.  A "stop Recording" button will appear in your menu bar,
or you can click command-control-esc to stop.

I'm on OS X 10.6.8 and the Quicktime version is 10.0.

I don't think this capability has always been there in Quicktime so older
versions may not have it.
