clipboard issue in Windows?

Win 7,
LC 5.0.2 dp1
So I have a field "total", and I want to copy the contents (a number) to
the clipboard for inclusion in a spreadsheet - but it doesn't seem to
happen.

copy char 1 to -1 of field "total" -- doesn't seem to do anything.
