To begin answering my own question...

Looking more closely at the on-rev forums,
I found this link to a concise and very useful
short guide to the on-rev server engine:

Perhaps a link to this guide should be included
on the on-rev or on-rev samples websites, with
a pro viso if need be about its roughness?
