Helper apps (was Re: EduTainment Titles)

Not much joy with Safari, I'm afraid:

helper apps is done within the Finder,
                                                                  (i.e. 
the ones for when you double-click on a doc in the Finder) and Safari
                                                                 just 
uses those.  I wonder what it does in Windows?

Internet Explorer has a 'Helper Applications' option in it preferences 
department.
