What it really means is that the apple file system is a fifty year old hack.. Check out the Be OS's file system in comparison.

My god, i feel as though i've opened pandora's box.  This is just a matter of getting at file system deltas as they happen.  Back when the printing press was invented there was push-back by people what said it meant the end of language.

The security implications of this are probably the reason Apple doesn't 
easily allow it.
