Inks: black translucent background with hole

Hi Scott,

This is a great effect but I can't follow how it works.  If copy and  
paste the spotlight oval in your stack, the copied oval shows up  
black... the transparency is lost.   I can't see any difference in  
the properties.  What am I missing?
