You either roll your own (yeuch!) or use a pre-built template. The  best I 
have seen is Califex Tree Field at  
http://homepage.mac.com/califexsoftware/CFX_res.html by Tereza Snyder. It is  self-contained, well documented, flexible 
and straightforward to  implement.
