CIFS protocol

I stumbled across a piece of software that utilizes the CIFS protocol in 
an URL such as cifs://someplace/somefolder/somefile. Does anyone know 
whether the Rev libURL can use this protocol? It sounds very good, and is 
described as an enhanced url-based file system protocol which originated 
from SMB.
