Can't copy and past objects between stacks of the same name

Has anyone else seen this in 2.6 (and maybe before)?  If you have two 
versions of the same stack (or two stacks named the same thing), you cannot 
copy and past objects between them:

Open the first stack, copy objects, purge and remove from memory
Open the second stack, try to paste.

Nothing happens.   Nothing is copied.  I have to create a new stack, paste 
them there, and then close and purge the first stack, open the second 
stack, and copy and paste them from the temp stack.

Does purge and remove from memory clear the clipboard?
