Yet another reason why I would like to see RR support message
inheritance for commands...

Yes!  For embedded OS's it most certainly does, and being able to put
RR on Linux means that it's therefore (theoretically) possible to put
a RR stack on lots of devices, many of which may be constrained for
memory.
