Hi Rob,

Just ran a little test.
Made a stack with 10000 cards with 1 field (fld 1) on each.
Put some text on random cards.
Put some extra fields (fld 2) on some of the cards

on mousup
put the long secs into zap  -- ;-)
mark cards where field 1 contains <sometext>
put the long secs - zap
end mouseup

results  around   10.420514

mark cards where field 2 contains <sometext>

results  around   0.072319
(on tibook 400 mhz )

Seems to me that the mark/unmark command doesn't touch
every card in the stack.
Can we force a bet?  :-))
