Manipulating PLAIN text on the clipboard (trying again)

I replied a second time, but it may have been lost in the deluge. I was 
able to reproduce your results. It looks like manipulation of text in 
the clipboard causes it to take on the (I think) system default font and 
other text properties. Can you Bugzilla this one? If not, let me know 
and I will.
