I don't know if this is relevant to your problem, but note that you 
probably don't want to "upgrade" from 2.2.1 to 2.2RC2. The latter is a 
release candidate (a sort of late-stage beta version.) After that came 
2.2 and then 2.2.1. Have you tried reinstalling the latest release?
