Ahhh.  I thought you were shooting for 'get TYPE|fieldName'.  Since 
'item...' can be on either side of a 'put' the same syntax might be 
used for getting and putting the value.

BTW, I don't get syntax errors with these:

get a$b
get a'b
get a`b

...uh, you already said you are happy; I better quit.
