Creating an Excel file with attributes

Not purely a Rev question but...

Technically, I can generate an Excel file from a bunch of tab-delimited data
just by writing it from Rev into a file with an .xls extension.  However, I
want to be able to control column widths, fonts, shading, etc. within the
resulting file.  Anyone know of a method, API, or resource that might
describe how to do this?
