Special characters with menuitems

Hello,

How is it possible to write menuitems that contains special characters 
without wanting special effect.
for example i want this menuitem    :        Monsieur (j)

With XFCN FullHPop (Hypercard) we use \  before special character to put 
out the effect of this special character.
