HyperCard backgrounds are replaced by RR groups. There can be many groups on
one card; that is a bit confusing at first, but it is much better that way.

Some do, some don't. Every Xthing that brings up a dialog doesn't work. But
it is often easy to make your own dialogs (substacks) to replace that
functionality.
