This is just a guess, but is the above handler in a standard-style button,
are you using a Mac, and is the lookAndFeel set to "Appearance Manager"? In
this case, there's a problem where the hiliting of the button deselects any
selected text. There are a number of workarounds, including using a
different button style and setting the button's autoHilite property to
false.
