a script to change the appearance of an image

In Hypercard, we had the ability to create simple animations by switching
the icon of a button. I am looking for a similar way to create a simple
animation with a series of images. It seems to me that there should be a
way for me to load a  bunch of images into memory and then modify an image
object on my card to use each of those images at the appropriate time.
However, nothing like this is documented.

Please help me...
