Also (which may well not be the prob in your case) +- may be saying the 
obvious - it depends which port your app is using to communicate?  
Standar HTTP goes over port 80 which is usually left open by the 
firewall and therefore OK to use. Ftp etc is another issue and the 
firewall may block. Not too hot on Firewalls myself, but I think some 
even go as far as to look at the protocol being used, and also only 
provide access to safe IP addresses. Good to share the experiences so we 
can all learn though.
