Problem setting the icon id of a button

I would suggest that you "renumber" your images that you use for 
icons...

Means set the ids of your images to a very high number, at least 6 
digits.
Images CAN be re-id'd (?) :-)

Like this:
...
set the id of img 1 of cd 1 of stack "quite nice icons"  to 1001006
## Please use a long description to avoid renumbering images in MC 
stacks!!!
## Especially in a repeat loop!!! ;-)
...

This way you will avoid icon/number conflicts in general and to edit 
the MC GUI :-)
I do this all the time and it works like a charm!
