Selecting an application

Here's a tough one:  Suppose you want to have a script that prompts the user
to select an application in OS X.  Remember that in OS X some "applications"
are files and some are folders.  This means that neither "answer folder" nor
"answer file" can be used.

What would you do?

Scot:Can we get an "answer application" for OS X which will use the Finder's
API for that?
