writing files on HD vs overwriting files on Apache CGI

Thank you all for your kind comments & suggestions.

I finally found a solution to my problem.
My cgi script is in cgi-bin, while the sub-directory
where files are supposed to auto create is in html.
By setting privileges of that sub-directory to 777,
files get created without any problem (and with
privileges = 644).

I'm not sure I fully understand why this solution
works though...
