It could. It would need an external (dll kind of thing) as an intermediary 
component supporting either database's API or ODBC. Unfortunately no one 
wrote such a thing yet, to the shame of metacard community.

No, though you can get a lot of good information from a Hypercard book of 
which there were a few written over the years. If you are a total beginner 
you can also try mcp.mc (and the docs) which can be found on 
ftp.metacard.com.
Also, you have a lot of information and an index of all commands, 
functions, etc. under Help. Ask questions to the list and browse the 
archives for scripts and/or solutions.
