No suggestions re: contacting Apple.

But I record sounds all the time.  I just do it in ResEdit, in the 
resource fork.  Wouldn't work on Windows, but works peachy on a Mac. 
The sound is recorded as a resource, and I can open it with my sound 
editor and shave off a few K's of unneeded southern drawl :-)
