What platform?

On a Mac, you can use sips. It's included with the OS. Example - typed
on the command line:

    sips -g pixelHeight -g pixelWidth /Users/pdslabs/Desktop/IMG_4411.jpg

The output:

    /Users/pdslabs/Desktop/IMG_4411.jpg
       pixelHeight: 750
       pixelWidth: 1000
