It *shouldn't* work from everything I know . . . in particular, the
compiler should throw an error when it hits that  line (and a *smart*
compiler would optimize the line out,  but that's another issue), which
should cause the bill to fail.

(Then again, I really want strong typing and C-style variable scope  . . . )
