Vector images?

I am probably expecting too much: I was expecting the ability to import 
an svg file to be present in the

File / Import as Control / Image file  menu item.

And why, forbye, is that not the case? The way it is implemented is 
awkward, non-logical, and, frankly bloody-minded.
