Bob,

Confirmed here on Mtn Lion 10.8.5 and LC 6.6.1. Mac-only bug, maybe?

When I double click the combo box to show the prop inspector the cursor changes to watch, but nothing happens. When I add another control type, it all starts working just like you said.
