I would never think that could be an issue. Custom properties are not object dependent. I set the customProperties of a card to that of a button. Worked as I assumed it would.

You are using two different control types (group and card). Perhaps you can
do the setting of customProperties between two controls of the same type
without the need for an intervening variable
