Hi Mark,

Thanks for this insight.  Personally I don't like Reader since it always 
goes full screen on Windows 8 forcing forcing me to grab the top center 
of the whole screen with a 'claw' and swipe it all the way to the 
bottom.  And then I'm dumped off at the 'metro' view of Windows 8, 
something I rarely use.  So I think I'll just stick with my new 
discovery, Foxit, which opens PDF's in a reasonably sized window on the 
desktop.
