Open Livecode Login

If my students have to register at a store, very few of them will download LiveCode at home. These are middle-school students, some of whom don't even have email accounts yet.

I'm hoping for a completely free and open version that my students can install on their computers as easily as they can install Scratch or any of the other programming environments used in schools.

I understand that LiveCode is being used in a lot of Scottish schools; how are they handling this issue?
