My two cents:
about the scrolling: first time I got a mac (in '88) I found the way scroll arrows worked totally counter intuitive
about time machine: yes, it can be a plague. I recently thought of excluding
~/Library/Caches
in the Time machine options
and things are definitively better now. IMHO, it should have been excluded by default.
