custom stack resize contro

Does the method have to be one of dragging? If it is "custom" would you accept a slider that, when the thumb is moved, adjusts the botright of the stack? I am not sure how smooth this would be, since, as has been said, doing this sort of thing under script control might be a bit sluggish. I cannot test it from where I am.
