Often I do things like

set the unicodeText of fld x to char 1 to (word 2 of the selectedChunk - 1) of the unicodeText of fld x & myNewUnicodeText & char (word 4 of the selectedChunk + 1) to -1 of the unicodeText of fld x

I don't know whether this still works in the latest verion of LC.
